LEAD TECHNICIAN 

Job Description for Lead Technician

Status: Full time

Reports to: Owners of Company


Summary of job: Provides on-site leadership to the low-voltage technician team and oversees installation and installs various cables that includes but is not limited to twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded cable, solid conductor low voltage cable, CAT-6, CAT-5, single mode fiber optical cable & multi mode fiber optical cable. Cable installation includes: placement, termination, testing, labeling & documentation. Test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic systems that are part of customer buildings, including, but not limited to, fire alarm, temperature control, security, card access, intercom, clock, sound and A/V systems. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and initiate work orders to repair deficiencies. Perform inspections of new construction and renovation projects. Perform programming, data backup and restoration functions for electronic systems. Maintain and update drawings and documentation for electronic systems.  Ensure customers are happy with a job well done.  Ensures that customer sites are left better than found.  

Salary: Up to $68,114 commensurate with experience, plus benefits including company vehicle and gas card.

Relocation: Relocation is NOT available for this position.  Candidates must live near or in Greenville, SC and have reliable transportation to and from work daily.  

Major Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of our low-voltage technicians found at www.genxsecurity.com/low-voltage-technician-jobs:

  • Train, direct, and oversee technicians on installation, safety, and maintenance methods/procedures, as required to perform all activities defined in the scope of work safely, with quality, on time and efficiently. Identify and escalate any new or high risk activities as needed to get additional support.

    • Understand, apply and enforce GenX Security and customer-provided environmental, health & safety policies.

    • In conjunction with other Lead Technicians provide regular feedback and development recommendations on members of the field team.​

  • Effectively utilize tools provided by GenX Security to include but not limited to:

    • Order Package/Forms – (Standard contents)

    • Emphasis on Scope of Work, Schedule, Dependencies and budget

    • Read blueprints

    • Read as-built drawings

    • Create QA checklist/Punch List

    • Leads site surveys

    • Company quality assurance guidelines

  • Communicate effectively with clients, management, and coworkers.

    • Recognize and assess the impact of site/scope changes on a real time basis. Escalate issues that will significantly impact the scope, resources and schedule

    • Provide timely status reports to internal/external contacts as required.

    • Apply the RFC/FCO process as needed for scope changes.

    • Provide support for client contacts & technicians as needed.

    • Meet with customers to determine satisfaction and areas of improvement.

    • Go above and beyond to ensure the customer has what they need.

    • Develop creative and effective solutions to unforseen events or issues that could affect the outcome of a job.

    • Provide positive leadership, motivation, and management of the technical team at all times.

Position Qualifications

 

In addition to possessing the same qualifications as required of the low-voltage technician position found at www.genxsecurity.com/low-voltage-technician-jobs, the lead technician must have at least 5 years of experience in installation of cabling & electronic devices associated with:

  • Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.

  • Strong working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & National Electric Code.

  • Proven ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables (to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multi mode fiber optical cables).

  • Must possess:

    • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, clear criminal background, and be able to pass a drug test

    • Relevant Equipment/Manufacturer specific certifications (ie. Lenel/S2, Hikvision, Honeywell, Alarm.com, etc. see our "Superior Brands" page for a list of brands we use.) 

    • High School Diploma or equivalent. (Vocational/Technical/Business school strongly preferred.)

    • Ability to read Blueprints.

    • Strong mechanical aptitude.

    • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions including schedules.

    • Comprehension of terminology pertaining to installation & service of telecom, data, security & wireless systems.

    • At least one industry certification (i.e. BICSI, CISCO, CTO, TIA, FOA etc.) or ability to acquire within 1 year from date of hire

  • Prefer/Nice to have:

    • NICET Certification

    • BICSI Certification

    • State license

    • IT Savvy/Programming experience/Networking/Firewalls

Work Requirements/Conditions

  • Use of small hand tools.

  • Use of power tools.

  • Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 100 pounds).

  • Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.

  • Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & roof tops utilizing proper fall protection.

  • Carrying of loads up & down stairs.

  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to travel at least 1 overnight per week within South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia, with travel up to 3 nights consecutively once per month to customer job sites.
