Job Summary

Status: Full time

Reports to: Lead Technician


Summary of job: Installation, placement, termination, testing, labeling and documenting various low voltage cable as well as installing, but not limited to, fire alarms, fire systems, security cameras, audio/visual systems, security systems, locks, access control systems, for both commercial and residential application.  Cabling includes but is not limited to twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded cable, solid conductor low voltage cable, CAT-6, CAT-5, single mode fiber optical cable & multi mode fiber optical cable. Technicians may also test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic systems that are part of customer buildings, including, but not limited to, fire alarm, temperature control, security, card access, intercom, clock, sound and A/V systems. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and initiate work orders to repair deficiencies. Perform inspections of new construction and renovation projects. Perform programming, data backup and restoration functions for electronic systems. Maintain and update drawings and documentation for electronic systems.

Salary: Market rates and based on experience

Relocation: Relocation is NOT available for this position.  Candidates must live near or in Greenville, SC and have reliable transportation to and from work daily.  

Major Responsibilities

  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings).

  • Install, terminate, test, label & document horizontal, backbone & other cables.

  • Dress & route cable into telecom closets, modular furniture & other work area outlets.

  • Build out telecom & equipment rooms.

  • Fire-stop various types of cable penetrations.

  • Test, troubleshoot, & document test results for cabling.

  • Possess working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & National Electric Code.

  • Understands, adheres to, & promotes Environmental, Health & Safety policies.

  • Report any project scope changes, issues, or concerns to assigned contacts.

Position Qualifications

 

We are currently hiring at all levels of experience.  At a minimum, candidates must have at least 1 year of experience in installation of cabling & electronic devices associated with:

  • Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.

  • Must have ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables (to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multi mode fiber optical cables).

  • Must have significant commercial fire alarm installation experience.

  • Must be a team player with a knack for electronics and problem-solving.

  • Must possess:

    • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, clear criminal background, and be able to pass a drug test

    • Equipment/Manufacturer specific certifications a plus.

    • A High School Diploma or equivalent. (Vocational/Technical/Business School strongly preferred.)

    • Ability to read blueprints.

    • Strong mechanical aptitude.

    • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions.

    • Comprehension of terminology pertaining to installation & service of telecom, data, security & wireless systems.

Work Requirements/Conditions

  • Use of small hand tools.

  • Use of power tools.

  • Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 100 pounds).

  • Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.

  • Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & roof tops utilizing proper fall protection.

  • Carrying of loads up & down stairs.

  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to travel at least 1 overnight per week within South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia, with travel up to 3 nights consecutively once per month to customer job sites.

  • Must have own tools.

  • Company truck, tools, gas card, and travel expenses are provided.

  • Technicians need their own basic hand-tools (ie. screwdriver, etc.)
